The band's drummer, Matt Foy, comes from an intensive background of musical experience. He possesses playing styles ranging from jazz to bluegrass, heavy metal to pop rock, classical percussion to punk, and thrash garage grunge, and even spent time as an accompaniment to classical and flamenco guitar. His vast range of styles beams through even when he is playing the simplest, most straightforward blues groove, making him a very interesting blues drummer.Matt Foy's extensive experience in the studio and on the road come together to culminate a playing style that helps the "Eric Rhodes Band" achieve their explosive style of music. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on December 16, 1963, Matt grew up moving all over the United States with his family. Little did he know he was already being tempered for life on the road. It comes as no great surprise that when he joined his first band he was already in combat mode on their fist tour. Talking up the band, challenging club owners and agents to find a hardier, tougher group around was just one of the many methods he used to make his mark. One time he even talked an aggressive drunk out of starting a fight by telling him, "Hey, buddy; I hit things for a living, and you're a lot softer than a drum. So come on now, let's chill out and have a drink..." His musical accomplishments are myriad. He has played for artists such as the Deacon Lucky Breaks (Lucky and the Hot Dice), the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra (with Leonard Slatkin), the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra, Spunkadilly (now known as the Smithwick Blues Machine), The Snake Doctors, Richard Johnston, Roger Hurricane Wilson, Henry Butler, Andy J. Forest, Bo Diddley, E.G. Kight, Tinsley Ellis... and the list goes on. Hundreds of hours in the recording studio and years on the road have helped form Matt into one of the baddest, toughest, and meanest drummers in the world. But don't fret none, when you sit down with him over a couple of good whiskies, you'll find he's actually a big, lovable sweetheart. Just don't say nothin' bad about his Mother. Remember, he hits things for a living, and they're hard as a drum.
