Alana Rocklin

For electric and upright bassist/composer Alana Rocklin, all music is unified by a groove. Whether she is playing in a small jazz combo, a large orchestra, or rock band her concept is always the same, making the band groove in the hardest way possible. She also believes that her responsibility as a composer is to move music forward and has successfully lead her own groups including The All Rectangle and Maschina. Currently, Alana lives in Nashville , TN where she is an in-demand bassist working with some of the finest musicians in the world. For the last year she has lead her own group JACKD, that features Johnny Neel (Allman Brothers, Gov’t Mule) and drummer Derico Watson (Victor Wooten), which has shared the stage with Bernie Worrell, The New Deal, moe.,  Garaj Mahal, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe and many others. She is also a member of Johnny Neel’s band The Last Word touring with him throughout the United States . Some of Alana’s recent freelance work includes gigs with Rufus Reid (Sonny Stitt, Dizzy Gillespie), Chester Thompson (Phil Collins, Frank Zappa), Audley Freed (Black Crowes), Rod McGaha (Max Roach), Lou Marini (Blues Brothers), Ari Brown (McCoy Tyner), Fareed Haque (Sting, Garaj Mahal), Beegie Adair, Annie Sellick, a performance at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, a bass clinic with Oteil Burbridge (Allman Brothers, Peacemakers) and many more.  In addition, she will be the bassist for the Jeff Coffin Mu’tet’s upcoming tour in February 2004. Alana has received endowments and critical accolades from such noteworthy musicians as Victor Wooten, Mark Isham, and Anthony Braxton, and her music has been written about in Jazz Times, Billboard Magazine, Hour Magazine, Signal-to-Noise, The Detroit Free Press, The Detroit News, allaboutjazz.com, allmusicguide.com, and many more.
